Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 6PM-6AM Job
Summary:
Performs, validates and interprets established tests and examinations in at least one of the following fields within the clinical laboratory:
Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Blood Bank and Microbiology.
Comprehends the theories and concepts for each procedure and utilizes independent thinking and communication skills to confer these concepts to physicians and other members of the hospital staff.
Assists with quality control, quality improvement initiatives as well as the oversight of Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Aides.
Duties may also include clerical tasks, phlebotomy and related laboratory services.
Principal Duties and
Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job.
He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
1.
Performs and interprets technical procedures in assigned departments according to approved policies and procedures within established turn around times.
2.
Documents results appropriately after reviewing for accuracy, validity and reasonableness of results.
Investigates any questionable result prior to reporting.
3.
Performs and documents quality control, start up and maintenance procedures according to established protocol.
4.
Investigates, resolves and documents all quality control or maintenance our of control instances according to protocol.
5.
Communicates according to policy with physicians, nurses and other hospital staff panic values and results that do not appear appropriate for the patient.
6.
Assists with the training and direction of Medical Lab Techs, Lab Aides and new employees in the department.
7.
Assists with the collection of specimens when needed assuring the patient is properly identified and the specimen is properly labeled.
8.
Maintains required documentation in accordance with guidelines established by regulatory agencies and according to laboratory policy.
9.
Assists Supervisor or others as needed.
Acts in supervisory capacity when assigned.
10.
Assists in Central Processing when assigned.
11.
Monitors and receives supplies into the department according to established procedures, storing them appropriately.
Notifies supervisor when supplies appear to be low.
12.
Follows safety and infection control policies.
13.
Actively participates in continuing education as it is offered.
14.
Completes workload and communicates the status of pending work to the on-coming shift.
15.
Exhibits a professional image, using positive interpersonal skills.
16.
Demonstrates good judgement and makes good decisions.
17.
Completes annual competency validations, mandatory safety programs and OSHA requirements.
18.
Maintains professional relationship with co-workers, nurses, physicians, patients and their families.
19.
Actively participates in Laboratory Quality Assurance program.
20.
Assists nurses and clerical staff with questions concerning proper ordering of tests and investigates questionable or unclear orders.
21.
Investigates documents and reports all complaints or problems encountered during the shift.
Communicates problems to supervisor.
22.
Anticipates the needs of other departments and assists in those areas when possible.
23.
Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:
Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology with ASCP or AMT certification or eligible to take the certification required.
Applicants must obtain MLS or MT (ASCP) or MT (AMT) certification within 6 months of the job entry date.
Previous work experience in high complexity testing preferred.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
